Today is my final day of working for Marketing Zone, and it is with some sadness that I have to say, this will be my final blog post. This week has been excellent in terms of getting experience and enjoying working. My favourite task of the week has to be making viral ads with Louis; I had such a good time filming and editing them. There hasn’t been one task I’ve gone into and thought oh god this is going to be boring, I got a great sense of satisfaction and pride from completing all of the tasks set.
This week has shown me just how a marketing agency works and I hope to take these skills with me into later life when I hope to have a company similar to Marketing Zone.

Today’s been my fourth day of work experience and thankfully it’s not been as hot today! I started my working day the same way as I had finished my last, browsing through sunglass websites and recording product names to avoid any similar names when it comes to naming our client’s products. I carried on with this task until just before lunch, by which time I had gathered together and written down over 500 product names from rival companies!
On my return from lunch I mentioned to Communications Director Dee Twomey that I had finished the product name gathering task and she was shocked that I had managed to complete so much work in such a short space of time. I then went about my next task which I started with Louis on Monday: finding Youtube clips about Polaroids and polarization for Marketing Zone to use on their Facebook page
. I found some quite interesting ones and rounded off the work by writing Read more…
Today is my third day on work experience with Marketing Zone and I am enjoying my time here. Today I started by carrying on with tasks set for me on my first day, such as finishing the spreadsheet for the blog report and editing our viral ads.
After working on that for a while, we went in to the other room and had a briefing about my next assignment to do with search engine optimisation. It involved using an internet tool to find the most commonly searched for terms and phrases to do with the product/s that the client is trying to sell.
After returning from lunch, I set about finishing off the keyword optimisation task and went on to make amendments to blogs that I had set out in the earlier blog report. I completed these tasks then moved onto researching product names; I started to scan through competitors websites and took notes on their product names. Read more…
On Tuesday I started work by being given a brief by Dee Twomey to create some imaginative ideas for some movie clips about Polaroid Sunglasses. Jake and I shared filming and acting roles in this challenge. We brainstormed various ideas for the task in hand and then went out on location.
First, armed with only a small digital video device, a children’s go-cart and the beautiful surroundings we did video number one. We then collected a bike and some skates and headed to the park and skate ramps. This was fun as it harnessed our talent in our hobbies.
We did various other video clips using the bike and skates and also we realised our talent for creative ideas when we thought of incorporating the idea of walking into a wall to show how Polarization can help vision.
We took a lunch break and met up with a friend. We made lots of jokes and shared our experience of work experience so far in our chosen workplaces. Our friend was jealous of what we had been doing so far that morning, even though he wouldn’t admit it directly.
It’s my second day working here at Marketing Zone and to say today was fun, is in all honesty, an understatement. Me and my work experience partner: Louis, have been out this morning making viral ads for Polaroid Sunglasses. At the start of the day we had a few ideas as to what we would do in these short commercials, we wrote these down and set off out on location to start filming. First we travelled down to pick up a few essentials for our premier advertisement shoot, e.g. a children’s go-kart and some Polaroids. These may sound like an odd combination, but together they made making the video fun and with its moments of hilarity. Our plan was to create a spoof driving sequence to promote the sunglasses, so we set about choosing a location and setting up the shots.
After trying hard to set up everything perfectly in its place, Louis drove down in the tiny go-kart, pulled a skid, mentioned how good driving in Polaroids was and then drove of into the distance. Now as you can probably tell from the comical nature of this clip it was hard not to laugh while filming, but after a few attempts we had got it nailed.
For two days I will be working at Marketing Zone as part of a work experience scheme run by my school; Freman College. Today was my first day. Anxious to make a good impression, I had been wearing what Mark Ganellin had described as appropriate, “Smart but casual, but not too casual and maybe a bit more smart.”
My day in the office began with a briefing, around the one-hour and a half mark. This included a power-point presentation accompanied by a croissant. I was very happy as the power-point presentation had obviously been made for the sole purpose of my induction to the company, and I had forgotten to eat breakfast, so a fresh croissant was perfect. I was assigned tasks during this presentation to complete during the period I was to stay. I managed to complete four of the seven tasks in the first day by working as a team with the other student doing work experience at Marketing Zone, Jake.
Hi,
I’m Jake and for the duration of this working week I will be working at Marketing Zone on work experience. I go to Freman College, and as part of the curriculum, all students have to take a week out of standard education in year 10 and go and get a taste of life in the workplace.
I chose to work for this company because in the future I am planning on getting into marketing and eventually having a similar sort of set up to Marketing Zone. Today has shown me what life in the workplace is like and how I would go about achieving this in later life. I started with a briefing by M.D Mark Ganellin in which I was instructed as to what tasks I should carry out today. I began with a report update which involved updating and recording the blog posts, I then moved on to other tasks such as making boxes, which proved to be quite satisfying! Read more…
