It’s always good to hear other experts’ opinions on digital marketing developments, so we attended The 4th Cambridge Digital Marketing Conference.

Dr Dave Chaffey from Smart Insights offered 20 tips on search engine optimisation and converting interest to sales. There was more on everything digital, including mobile marketing, smart phone apps and search from experts at Google, Microsoft and MagicSolver.com.

Social media was the hot topic of the day. A key message is the sheer volume of online users of social networks. Mark Cook of Further Group talked about speed of change; quoting the much used statistic that radio took 38 years to get 50 million users. In comparison television took 13 years and Facebook took just 5 months.

Has your organisation got a social media strategy in place? Looking at those statistics perhaps it needs one.

Work experience day 5

by MZ

in Local

Today is my final day of working for Marketing Zone, and it is with some sadness that I have to say, this will be my final blog post. This week has been excellent in terms of getting experience and enjoying working. My favourite task of the week has to be making viral ads with Louis; I had such a good time filming and editing them. There hasn’t been one task I’ve gone into and thought oh god this is going to be boring, I got a great sense of satisfaction and pride from completing all of the tasks set.

This week has shown me just how a marketing agency works and I hope to take these skills with me into later life when I hope to have a company similar to Marketing Zone.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Ganellin, Dee Twomey and everyone at Marketing Zone for giving me a thoroughly enjoyable and very insightful look into working life.

Thank you and goodbye!

Work experience day 4

by MZ

in Local

Today’s been my fourth day of work experience and thankfully it’s not been as hot today! I started my working day the same way as I had finished my last, browsing through sunglass websites and recording product names to avoid any similar names when it comes to naming our client’s products. I carried on with this task until just before lunch, by which time I had gathered together and written down over 500 product names from rival companies!

On my return from lunch I mentioned to Communications Director Dee Twomey that I had finished the product name gathering task and she was shocked that I had managed to complete so much work in such a short space of time. I then went about my next task which I started with Louis on Monday: finding Youtube clips about Polaroids and polarization for Marketing Zone to use on their Facebook page. I found some quite interesting ones and rounded off the work by writing a short, one line description of each video and a longer five line description of each video to possibly be used in the future.

Tomorrow will be my final day of work experience here at Marketing Zone which means this is my penultimate blog post, so expect my last one tomorrow but until then, goodbye.
