Marketing agency focus: Spending trends

Posted in Creativity, Marketing insights by Stephanie

Marketing budgets are showing trends of rising.

When the recession hits, investing in marketing pulls you through. True? According to an industry survey this could be the case.

The Q1 2010 IPA/BDO Bellwether survey, which is widely thought of as the benchmark for the advertising industry, reveals that for the first time since the third quarter of 2007, around 21% of companies reported a rise in their marketing budgets, while only 16% saw reductions.

This is definitely good news for marketing agencies, but also makes good business sense. If your customers aren’t seeing your adverts, reading your PR or aware of your website, then they won’t know your product is available.

A new logo and website for Wiseheart.

Wiseheart help organisations like Tesco inspire great service from people, which in turn wins customer loyalty. They help frontline staff and leaders to tap into their emotional intelligence, giving them the capability to react to customers more positively and increase customer satisfaction levels.

Wiseheart approached Marketing Zone for marketing consultancy and web design expertise. We worked with founder, Richard Thorp, to create a new logo to be used throughout all their marketing communications, and developed a website using a content management system. The students developed their digital marketing skills with a case study on Polaroid sunglasses.

University is the place to get a degree or qualification in marketing. But there’s nothing like a bit of work experience to get the cogs really turning!

A group of students from the University of Hertfordshire joined us at our office last week, developing their digital marketing skills, with a case study based on Polaroid sunglasses. Marketing Zone gave practical help and knowledge which took them up a gear from the theory they’d learnt on their course.

This week they’re back at University with a fresh new outlook and some golden nuggets of information that’ll go a long way towards helping them with this piece of coursework and their future in marketing. If you want to get involved, there’s still time for you to help by completing their quick surveys.

The Chartered Institute of Marketing and the University of Hertfordshire are holding a recruitment event at the University on Wednesday 10 March. Marketing Zone has been asked to be there to provide advice to students who want a career in marketing.

In these testing times, it can be difficult for students to get into the career they want. Employers usually want a mixture of both qualifications and experience, which can be a challenge. This careers evening will give students the best possible advice to kick start their future in marketing. They will find out what’s really involved and the best way to get into such a popular sector.

How to brief an agency – the story of Polaroid Eyewear and Marketing Zone

Posted in Campaigns, Creativity, Design and communications, Strategic campaigns by MZ
Nov 06 2009

Marketing Zone is a busy agency. There’s always another website to develop, a proposal to finish or some freshly designed logos ready to present to a client. But we don’t spend our days in business as usual mode. We like to do that little bit extra. A good way to meet people, talk about what we do and get feedback is to hold an event at The Chartered Institute of Marketing. Mark, our Managing Director, and Dee, our Communications Director, are Chartered Marketers and active members of The Institute. Not only is The Chartered Institute of Marketing a source of qualifications and training in marketing, it offers opportunities for marketers to exchange ideas and develop professionally. They also offer guidance on selecting and briefing an agency. Read more…

Running a marketing agency is a lot like running a race.

Posted in Local by MZ
Jul 24 2009

MG running his marketing agency! Those of you following this blog may know that I trained for the London Asics 10k run held on July 12, 2009. It was my first ever running race. I completed it in one hour and four minutes and I raised close to £500 for Paralympics UK. It was a good race. I couldn’t have run faster, but I could definitely have run further. Here I am with Nelson.

I enjoyed the training – I did a mixture of things including cycling, running and playing football. I even went swimming. For me, the key to training was variety. Using different muscle groups and meeting up with different people kept me keen – and ready to push myself. Doing the same thing over and over just doesn’t work for me. Even when I do my runs, I like to try out new routes. It’s more challenging and more interesting. Read more…
