For a marketing agency which has made its name working with small businesses and start-ups in Cambridge the advantages of taking part in the city’s business networking opportunities are never overlooked. Maintaining the reputation of Marketing Zone amongst Cambridge businesses is important and also enjoyable. Mark Ganellin, who heads up the marketing agency always makes the most of these events, never knowing who he may meet, bringing together as they do a rich mix of local businesses.
Networking in the historic centre of Cambridge
Recently, Mark was delighted to have the opportunity to attend a networking lunch in Queens’ College, Cambridge organised by The Cambridge Business & Professional Club (CBPC). The CBPC is the original business club in Cambridge, set up in 1950, currently with over 140 members. It meets monthly – an hour’s networking is followed by a formal three course lunch – with a speaker who is usually a member of the local business community.
The lunches take place in the magnificent Old Hall at Queens’ College which alone is a good enough reason to attend – the fifteenth century hall proudly shows its six hundred years of history in the form of elegant wooden panelling, stained glass, beamed roof, coats of arms and decorative tiles all of which have been expertly maintained and restored over the centuries. The phrase Floreat Domus, the motto of the college, meaning May this house flourish, takes pride of place on the frieze high above the dining room and seems an appropriate maxim under which to work on forming lasting and meaningful working relationships.
The history continues as Queens is also famous for its Mathematical Bridge, an ingeniously designed wooden construction from the eighteenth century and ends at the famous pub, The Eagle, another Cambridge landmark, where many attendees relocate to cement newly made acquaintances.
Meeting new clients
As Mark says, “Cambridge is one of those places where it is possible to make some significant contacts from any of the networking events. This is why maintaining a presence is so important to us. The city attracts diverse and interesting businesses and with them come individuals who are keen to explore every opportunity.”
