Edward Johnston developed the typeface that’s been used by the London Underground for its signs and publicity for 100 years. Marketing Zone loves the London Transport Museum’s recent tribute to the masterful Johnston. To coincide with a celebratory events, the museum created a series of typographic posters featuring quotes from Johnston.
There’s marketing wisdom in his witty words.
At the heart of Johnston’s design for London Underground is the absolute simplicity of a sans serif font, without the swirls or embellishments popular at the time. Johnston’s legacy has ultimately influenced how London itself is branded.
