Love a good story? Marketing Zone’s Dee Twomey does too. She’s just completed the Explore Filmmaking course through Future Learn.
“I wanted a fresh perspective on creating compelling communications and I got it,” Dee comments “Through the course I’ve had access to insights on the filmmaking process from award-winning filmmakers covering writing and directing to cinematography, composing and editing. It’s reinforced much of what I know about good writing and narrative and added a broader context.”
The course was created by the National Film and Television School (NFTS) with the British Film Institute (BFI) Academy and is delivered by Future Learn which is an open access platform. The course provides valuable expert perspectives. Tutors are something of a who’s who of film. Nik Powell, director of the NFTS and producer of more than 40 films, including The Crying Game, Mona Lisa and Company of Wolves opens the course. Destiny Ekharaga, director of Gone Too Far and Mike Figgis, director of Leaving Las Vegas, TimeCode and Internal Affairs provide their advice on script, theme, location and kit. Director of The Hallow, Corin Hardy, talks about his craft and music videos for the likes of The Prodigy, Olly Murrs and Devlin to demonstrate the impact of set. The critical role of editing is apparent when Justine Wright, editor of Touching the Void, The Iron Lady and Locke explains her role in decision-making when weaving the story together. Danny Hambrook, sound designer of Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Le Weekend, production sound mixer on Rush shows how sounds anchors the audience to the story by providing a sense of realism.
