Marketing agency focus: Spending trends

Marketing budgets are showing trends of rising.

When the recession hits, investing in marketing pulls you through. True? According to an industry survey this could be the case.

The Q1 2010 IPA/BDO Bellwether survey, which is widely thought of as the benchmark for the advertising industry, reveals that for the first time since the third quarter of 2007, around 21% of companies reported a rise in their marketing budgets, while only 16% saw reductions.

This is definitely good news for marketing agencies, but also makes good business sense. If your customers aren’t seeing your adverts, reading your PR or aware of your website, then they won’t know your product is available.

Marketing Zone to give workshop on email marketing

Posted in Email marketing, Marketing insights by Stephanie
May 04 2010

Marketing Zone is working with Media Trust to help charities improve their email marketing.

We always like to do our bit for charity, so when asked by Media Trust to present a workshop on email marketing, we jumped at the chance.

Media Trust is an organisation which works with charities and not-for-profit organisations to give them skills and techniques to develop their communications. The workshop we’ll be hosting, E-newsletters in a nutshell, will show how email marketing is a cost-effective way to communicate and the elements involved.

As charities often have limited funding, email marketing could be a positive way for them to make more of their budgets. We’re looking forward to presenting some useful information to kick-start their online marketing strategies.

The personal effect of marketing campaigns

When you’re sending out mailings, research has shown that you need to take some time to decide who you are targeting. Any company can send out a standard sales letter to their entire database, but it’s unlikely to work.

Studies have shown that personalised content can dramatically boost customer loyalty, online conversions, and revenue. Maybe you’re put off because you tried it a few years ago and it didn’t pay off. But now, with budgets stretched, bosses and shareholders expecting to see a result for every penny spent, it might be time to give it another shot.

Marketing insights: What is a tag cloud?

Posted in Marketing insights, Online marketing by MZ
Oct 30 2009

Tag clouds often show up on blogs and even on some websites. They don’t usually take up too much space – depending on how the site organises its home page. They’re a visual depiction of the tags or keywords that contributors have attached to their content. These could be the terms used in a post on social marketing, or it could be the location a photo was taken. Most tags are single words. And they can be arranged in alphabetical order. Tags that are used more frequently appear bolder or larger. They may also use a different colour. If a blog post, for example, gets lots of responses, its tags will become more prominent. All the tags are hyperlinked to their content.

The advantage of tag clouds is simple. Visitors to your site can find out quickly what your content is about. And, they can decide what they want to go to. In a sense, it’s a table of contents that’s easy to look at and tells you at a glance what’s popular and interesting.
